A Definition of Coaching (from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia)
Coaching, with a professional coach, is the practice of supporting an individual, referred to as a coachee, through the process of achieving a specific personal or professional result….The structure and methodologies of coaching are very numerous with one unifying feature, coaching approaches are predominantly facilitating in style, that is to say that the coach is mainly asking questions and challenging the coachee. Coaching is differentiated from therapeutic and counselling disciplines….Coaching is performed with individuals and groups, in person, over the phone and online.
Glenn’s Process
Glenn practices whole life narrative coaching in conjunction with the A.W.A.R.D.S. coaching model (which he created). Narrative coaching is essentially a branch of “talk therapy” in which the client provides insight into their day-to-day life, thoughts and activities. Through active listening the coach can then intuit behavior patterns that negatively serve the client. Through the process of investigation, questioning, “drilling down” and “playing back” responses, clients soon become aware of non-beneficial or counter-productive thought processes and can actively shift their perspectives and behaviors in order to form better serving life practices.
Glenn is also well acquainted with the Personal Strength’s and Virtues inventory. By completing the 45 minute *VIA questionnaire clients gain knowledge about themselves and can embark on a journey of personal discovery. Your coach can help you recognize, acknowledge and rejoice in your god given and/or life learned personality strengths plus work with you to develop your underutilized abilities.
By simply reserving one hour a week (or every other week) to focus on oneself, all clients gain a better understanding of what makes them tick and why they behave the way they do.
Finding Out More
Discovery Session (1-hour) – Free
Find out more about Glenn, his process and get some free coaching. Clients will be asked to complete a “pre-coaching questionnaire” which can be an eye-opener just by itself and asked to email it to the coach 24-hours before their session. Topics discussed during the session and any information exchanged before, during or after the session fall under the umbrella of professional confidentiality.
Consideration Period
Clients do not have to commit to coaching during the Discovery Session. You will be emailed a standard coaching agreement which will give you details about the coaching relationship including confidentiality, liability, our session days/times (if pre-determined) and discussed fee details. Coaching begins as soon as you commit to the coaching agreement. Your first official session can begin within 48 hours.
A Typical Coaching Session (1-hour)
A typical session consists of a quick relaxation/focussing exercise, checking in on your current emotional & physical state, a review of the progress made over the past week(s) – especially if specific goals were defined or “homework” assigned, a discussion of new thoughts, observations, considerations and changes in perspectives, goal-oriented activities planned for the following week(s) and a wrap up. Each client will be emailed a session summary within 48-hours that touches on key topics that came up during coaching.
Clients may be asked to complete a session focus form and email it to Glenn prior to their next scheduled coaching.
Tele-Coaching Versus In-Person
Sometimes referred to as “convenience coaching” tele-coaching (doing your coaching session over the phone or SKYPE) appeals to people with busy schedules and limited free time who want to avoid travel time.
Other benefits include:
- Sessions can be done at a convenient time from your home or office
- There is no travel time (very convenient if you and I are in different cities)
- It’s easier to reschedule session times or days with your coach
- Its easier to grab your coach for impromptu sessions prompted by new events or situations
- Many clients are more receptive to coaching when they are relaxed and in a comfortable home environment.
